HOWARD PORTRAIT OF A STREET ARTIST

Howard makes wire art creations. He is a street artist from Mdantsane.

He lives in Mdantsane and travels everyday to Bonza Bay Beach with a taxi.
This is his working place, where he sits in front of a small take away, works and sells his art.

His hands work and wrap wire all day long

to make key rings, bird feeders and small wire sculptures

He loves to create bigger pieces but he says the small ones sell best because they are cheap.
People don't think so much about spending five Rand.
But they think a lot nowadays if they spend 50 Rand.

Howard is an informal African Entrepreneur on a small scale.
He earns up to 4000 Rand a month in good times.
He makes between fifty to two hundred Rand a day with his art pieces.

What his eyes see all day long is beautiful
Yes, he says, but when there is wind and it is cold it is a rough place to be.
The wind of Bonza Bay blows in winter.
